Michelle Shaffer developed her interest in human services as a camp volunteer with Special Olympics and Camp Spearhead in Greenville, SC while attending college. Starting her career as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), Michelle has successfully served in a variety of professional positions for two different DSN Boards as well as a stint as a contracting facilitator. Additionally Michelle has worked with various Boards, private providers of ID services and state agencies on special projects and staff training initiatives throughout her career. Michelle brought her 30+ years of experience to MaxAbilities of York County in 2008 and currently serves as its Executive Director/ chief coffee taster for the York Coffee Roastery. In her spare time, Michelle enjoys a variety of hobbies to include cooking, travel and served several years as a local Cub Scout Volunteer.
Sharon Y. Mcknight is a graduate of University of South Carolina with a Bachelors’ of Science Degree in Sociology with a Minor in Psychology. She is currently the Residential Director and has 24 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Sharon is the proud mother one son and enjoys spending time with family, friends, working for her church and listening to music.
Chris Clark had a providential start in the human services field when he joined Elliott Davis & Company after graduating from Clemson in 1990. Among many other industries he audited, he was assigned as a staff auditor on three Disabilities and Special Needs Board engagements. This lead to his taking a job as the Finance Director with one of his DSN clients in 1994. He also did a five year stint with another DSN Board in the Pee Dee area as their Finance and Information Systems Administrator. He founded and operated a two office local CPA public accounting firm. In May 2019, he sold his company and took over at the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs as the State Agency’s Chief Financial Officer. Chris brought his 30+ years of experience in DSN finances to MaxAbilities in May 2021. Chris enjoys playing golf (even though he is horrible at it), shooting pool, listening to music, and enjoying the outdoors when he is not working. He is married and has two adult children.
Jennifer Baker is a Graduate of The Citadel with a Masters in Clinical Counseling. Jennifer continued her education by enrolling in Behavior Analytic coursework through the University of Nevada Reno, and received her Board Certification in Behavior Analysis in 2013. Since then, she has supervised programs aimed to increase the language, social, and adaptive skills for individuals with Autism and other Intellectual Disabilities. In addition, Jennifer has written and overseen the implementation of Behavior Plans meant to decrease maladaptive behaviors. Jennifer lives in Lake Wylie with her husband and young son, and in her spare time loves to read, go to the gym, try new restaurants, and travel.
Micka Ashley will tell you that she has been blessed to work with many amazing children, adults and families and has enjoyed seeing each one maximize their abilities over the course of her years with the agency. Her career started over 20 years ago providing direct care support in a residential setting and evolved to include providing Case Management services. She is now excited to be part of the Human Resources team. Micka lives in Clover with her husband, son and daughter and one very spoiled dog. Micka enjoys cooking, reading, and loves attending concerts and Broadway shows.
Sharne Prophet, Lead Community Nurse Coordinator, has more than 30 years of medical experience to include insurance, hospital, central supply, nursing home, utilization review and developmental disabilities. Sharne has spent 15 years as a nurse at MaxAbilities of York County with the last 8 serving as Lead Community Nurse Coordinator. She has a Diploma from Lancaster Vocational School for Practical Nurse and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.
LeEtta Hart is a proud graduate of Winthrop University and the University of South Carolina-Columbia. She has been providing services for people with Intellectual Disabilities for 9 years and brought 15 years of Case Management experience when accepting a Residential Coordinator position with MaxAbilities of York County. It is important to LeEtta that residents are able to feel that, “In this place and with these people, I feel safe.” In her leisure time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, shopping, traveling, baking and getting some movement.
Sonya Lopes oversees operations of both Adult Activities Centers in York County. She has worked with individuals with disabilities for over 10 years. She enjoys helping people fulfill their potential and celebrate their successes. Previously, Sonya was the Director of Early Intervention and is a graduate of The University of Alabama.
She lives in Tega Cay with her husband and two daughters. In her free time, Sonya enjoys learning water sports, hot yoga, gardening, and traveling.
Tonya Hardin, Office Manager, has been with MaxAbilities of York County since 2016. She brings with her a wealth of experience in office management and puts that to good use daily keeping all aspects of the Administrative office running smoothly. Tonya spends her free time attending various school sporting events as “chief cheerleader” for her kids. She also enjoys shopping, hair styling, family time and binge watching HGTV with her daughter or Tom & Jerry with her young son.
